At TC Stoneworks, we take the time to explain the many options available
to our customers. We feel that an informed client is a satisfied client, and
therefore have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions.

1. What does the term "veneer" mean? Does that mean it is not real stone?

    • The word "veneer" applies to both natural and manufactured stone. Basically, it refers to the
thin cut of the stone. Natural stone are offered in full "brick thick" versions, as well as thin cut
versions, and manufactured stones are cast from molds of real stones.

2. Is there a benefit to using natural or manufactured stone?

    • Manufactured Stones are a fraction of the cost compared to Natural Stones. It is lighter in weight,
and therefore can be used in more scenarios than a Natural Stone can. A prime example would be
an interior non-weight bearing wall. In contrast, Natural Stones require wall ties or footing to support
their weight, whereas manufactured stones do not. Ultimately, each customer must decide for
themselves which type is the right stone for them, and each person will likely have a different opinion
of which is the best looking stone for their dollar.

3. What is the average weight of a manufactured stone, and where can it be applied?

    • Most manufactured stones weigh an average of 10-12 pounds per square foot. The applications
for manufactured stone are numerous. Stone Veneers can be installed indoors or outdoors, for
new construction or remodelling, and are commonly used in both residential and commercial applications.

4. I have an existing fireplace with outdated ugly brick. Can stone veneers be applied

  on top of the brick?
    • YES! You can apply stone veneers directly over existing brick. If your existing brick is structurally
sound, there is no need to tear down what is already in place. You wil be amazed at the
transformation and how quickly and easily it can be done.

5. Can I install stone veneers myself?

    • We have many success stories of first time installers who were thrilled with the result. Depending
on the size of your project, as well as the particualr style of stone you select, you may be ready
to accept the challenge of doing it yourself. There are many factors to consider, including
the style, pattern, as well as the grout technique to by used. With patience and time, you can
learn to install the stone yourself. We can supply you with the information you will need to get
the job done. For step by step directions on installation, visit our "installation guide" page, or

6. Where can I locate experienced masons?

    • If you need to find an experience, licensed installer, we can assist you with that as well. We
are happy to refer you to the professionals that we have worked with in the past, and whose
quality of work we have witnessed firsthand. We encourage feedback from our customers
to learn of their level of satisfaction after their project is completed.

7. Will manufactured stone fade?

    • Permanent oxide pigments are applied and absorbed by the stone when it is cast. As a result,
the color becomes an integral part of the stone. There are no noticable changes in the color
      after years of weathering.

8. Is all man-made stone considered Cultured Stone?

    • Cultured Stone is actually a brand name of stone, not a type referring to if it is a natural or
manufactured stone. Cultured Stone brand is made by Owens Corning.

9. What brand names do you carry?

    • TC Stoneworks carries a wide selection of Stone Veneer products, by several different
manufacturers. In addition to Cultured Stone, we also carry Eldorado Stone, J&N Stone,
Heritage Stone, Dutch Quality Stone, Stonecraft, Mathios, and Shouldice. In the Natural Stone
